Data Ops Analyst (AI-native, FinTech)

SALARY: £30K-£33K + SHARES

CONTRACT: FULL TIME

LOCATION: LONDON, HYBRID (2 DAYS OFFICE BASED, 3 DAYS WFH)

ABOUT THE STARTUP

Private markets are a huge and fast-growing asset class, but much of the investment world still manages them using PDFs, Excel and a lot of manual work.

Our client is fixing that. They’re an early-stage data and AI company, set up by a founder with senior experience at a major private markets investment firm, and backed by investors and advisors who know the industry inside out.

Their platform uses AI to take the manual effort out of private markets data and reporting for institutional investors, such as family offices, foundations and pension funds. It already tracks billions in client assets, and the data they’ve built up would be very hard for anyone else to copy.

It’s a small team, with products already live and clients paying for them. The business is growing fast and is targeting triple growth year on year. It’s a great chance to work where tech meets finance, and you’ll learn a huge amount about private capital and help build products that make a real difference to clients.

ROLE OVERVIEW

The company is growing and needs a sharp Data Operations Analyst with a real eye for detail, sitting at the centre of how clients receive their data. Expect to learn a lot, and quickly.

You’ll look after the whole data journey for clients, from the fund reports that come in, through extraction, checking and reconciliation, to the final figures clients rely on. You’ll work closely with clients and the engineering team, and learn how institutional investors actually manage their private markets portfolios. Confidentiality matters a lot to these clients, so you’ll also be trained to handle sensitive data to recognised security standards, which most graduates don’t get to do this early on.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Pull financial data out of private fund reports using the company’s AI platform, then check and validate the output before it goes to clients.

  • Reconcile figures carefully. When something like a NAV, cash flow or look-through number doesn’t add up, work out why in a methodical way and fix it so it doesn’t happen again.

  • Get data into client-facing applications accurately and on time.

  • Use AI tools and LLM workflows to automate manual processes, and help build out the data pipelines.

  • Flag extraction errors and suggest process improvements to the engineers, so the models and tools keep getting better.

  • Be the go-to person for client data queries, keeping communication clear and prompt.

CAREER PROGRESSION

You’ll own client data delivery from start to finish, manage client relationships, build a deep understanding of private markets and get hands-on experience automating work with AI.

Progression is shaped around your interests, with routes into product, client, or AI and automation leadership roles.

PROFILE REQUIREMENTS

This suits someone who enjoys a fast-moving, changing environment and likes the idea of helping build something meaningful from an early stage.

REQUIRED SKILLS:

  • A recent graduate in STEM, Maths, Economics or Finance, ideally with some relevant experience such as an internship or up to around a year in work.

  • Good at solving problems and happy working on your own initiative.

  • Proactive. You take ownership and come with solutions rather than problems.

  • Entrepreneurial, with a real drive to learn and grow.

  • Very detail-focused, with high standards for your own work.

  • A clear communicator, written and verbal, including with clients.

  • Strong Excel skills for analysis and reporting.

  • Working knowledge of Python for cleaning and analysing data.

  • Comfortable using AI tools such as ChatGPT, Claude or Cursor every day, including to write and debug scripts.

DESIRABLE SKILLS (USEFUL EXTRAS):

  • Some interest in or knowledge of accounting, private equity or venture capital.

  • Experience in a start-up, or familiarity with Agile ways of working.

THIS PROBABLY ISN’T FOR YOU IF YOU:

  • Care more about a top-of-market salary than ownership, learning and equity.

  • See AI tools as a nice-to-have rather than how you work every day.

  • Need lots of structure and find variety overwhelming.

  • Struggle when priorities change and you have to adapt quickly.

  • Expect start-up life to be easy, relaxed and predictable.
