Information on the company

Our client is passionate about long-term wealth for local business owners and their teams. They acquire and invest in strong, owner-led businesses in the Built World (think companies that build the foundations of buildings, HVAC, solar installation, masonry, and other skilled trades). They are building a long-term home for great local businesses that would otherwise be sold to large corporations, or  closed when the owner retires. Our client brings capital, technology, and shared infrastructure.

The owner keeps doing what they do best. Based in London and Montreal and backed by a USD $11 million Series A, they are now at an exciting inflection point  close to signing their first letter of intent with a partner business and actively working with lenders on their first acquisitions. This is a rare opportunity to join at the very beginning of something significant.

THE OPPORTUNITY

This is a generalist, high-impact role working directly with the London based Co-Founder across every dimension of the business. Think of it as the engine room: plugging into different workstreams, producing high-quality materials, and making sure the things that need to happen, happen.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

No two weeks will look the same. As a guide, early projects may include:

  • Financial modelling

  • Supporting investor communications and board meeting preparation

  • Analysing data and reporting your findings

  • Lender and partner management - reporting, relationship tracking, preparation for meetings with lenders

  • Producing high-quality strategy decks and presentations with minimal instruction

  • Operational projects: website, brand execution, and cross-functional initiatives

  • Owning side projects end-to-end for 2–3 months at a time, then handing them off

  • We’ll be honest, not everything is sexy. There will be some boring admin tasks as well such as booking travel

The ideal candidate…

Essential

  • Problem solver. There isn't a playbook. There are lots of things to figure out

  • Genuine ambition and intellectual curiosity, you want to learn everything about how a business works

  • Strategic thinking: you can altitude-match, moving fluidly between a 30,000-foot question (“should we pursue this sector?”) and a ground-level task (“fix this slide”) in the same meeting

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication

  • Relentless attention to detail, combined with an ability to move fast

  • Ability to work autonomously and take ownership of outcomes, not just tasks

  • Comfortable with ambiguity and thriving in an environment where the brief changes

  • An active contributor, you have ideas, you want to share them

  • Financial modelling experience

  • Background in strategy consulting, investment banking, or a similar analytical environment

DESIRABLE:

  • Experience running or founding your own venture

  • Interest in the physical economy, construction, or skilled trades sectors

WHO THRIVES HERE

Our client has seen three profiles succeed in this kind of role:

  • Recent graduates (top-tier undergrad or master’s) who are exceptionally sharp and hungry to learn, perhaps want to be a founder in the future, or have a real passion for entrepreneurship & startups

  • Former founders whose venture didn’t reach scale, who want a place to channel their energy and learn

  • Consultants or investment bankers alumni of consulting or investment banking with an entrepreneurial itch

Why work here?

  • Joining a well-backed early-stage startup company and working alongside one of the founders

  • Equity participation through an employee ownership scheme,  if the business does well, you do well

  • Genuine path to a senior role within 12–24 months, previous founders associates have developed into other more senior roles

  • Who goes to company off-sites per year in warm locations when the weather is bad in the UK!

  • Opportunity to travel to visit the team in Montreal.

INTERVIEW PROCESS

  • Stage one: In-person interview (90 minutes)

  • Stage two: Video interview with the Co-Founder and Chief of Staff based in Montreal (60 minutes)
