Information on the company
Our client is building an early-stage platform that enables creators and modern entrepreneurs to sell anything from courses, memberships, coaching, physical products, digital products, communities, and subscriptions through a single storefront with a built-in recurring revenue engine.
The product already has a working MVP built by a technical co-founder over the past year+ (including a drag-and-drop site builder, payments integration, order fulfilment, course hosting, and a coaching booking workflow). The team is currently two people (founder + CTO). This role is the first design hire and will shape the entire product experience. This is a mission-critical hire: the product will not be launched in its current form. This role directly unlocks launch readiness.
Today, creators and audience-led businesses often need multiple tools to run their business (billing, order management, analytics, customer management, content delivery). These tools frequently don’t integrate cleanly, and the data can be inconsistent across systems making it difficult to understand customers, make marketing decisions, and scale confidently.
On top of that, many existing platforms have clunky user journeys, creating friction at the exact moment users need clarity and speed. Their goal is to deliver a product that is immediately obvious, minimal-click, and genuinely enjoyable to use while still being powerful enough to support long-term growth.
ABOUT THE ROLE…
The MVP works, but it was built without design input no wireframes, no user research, no design system. We need someone to come in and do two things:
Figure out what the product should be (features, flows, and information architecture across multiple product types)
Design it to be best-in-class (UX + UI + system), in a way that’s pragmatic to ship with a small engineering team
WHAT YOU’LL DO
Run a competitive teardown across leading creator commerce tools (courses, communities, storefronts, subscriptions). Not just screenshots identify what functionality exists, what’s missing, and what “best-in-class” looks like per product type
Define the feature set and user flows for each product type we support. Courses, coaching, memberships, physical products, communities, digital products, subscriptions
Design the complete journey from “I’ve just signed up” to “I’m running a scaled business”. Onboarding, product creation wizards, dashboards, customer management, analytics, fulfilment
Create wireframes → high-fidelity UI designs in Figma
Build a design system and component library from scratch
Work directly with the CTO on implementation. You’ll need to be pragmatic: what ships first, what’s “good enough”, and how to sequence improvements
Contribute to product strategy and prioritisation. This is not a “take briefs and make screens” role you’ll have real influence
The ideal candidate…
Excited by being the the only founding designer in a lean environment with an entrepreneurial mindset cares about the business, not just the pixels
Zero-to-one work. Either early-stage startup, or launching new product lines inside larger companies. If you have previously been a Founding Product Designer even better!
End-to-end product design capability (UX + UI) with a proven track record of shipping new products with tangible impact from prior work (examples may include revenue growth, user growth, retention, activation, customer satisfaction no single metric required)
“Simple, Fast to value & Easy to navigate” mentality for new product
Research-led and analytical. You don’t “guess UX” you can explain decisions clearly and tie them to user outcomes
You’ve seen high standards somewhere (e.g., strong product culture, scaled teams, high-quality UX bar)
Expert in Figma, capable of building systems from scratch
WHAT WE’RE NOT LOOKING FOR
Pure visual/UI designers who make things look pretty but can’t shape product strategy
Specialists who’ve spent years optimising one small feature inside a huge design org
Designers who need heavy process, a PM to brief them, or a research team to lean on
Agency portfolios dominated by branding/marketing sites rather than product work
Why work here?
Serial Founder: Built and sold an 8 figure startup, boot strapping this business from funds from sale of his first startup
True founding impact: you’ll define the product experience from the ground up, architecture, flows, patterns, system, and quality bar
Design is genuinely valued: this role is viewed as critical to launch and long-term success, not a “nice to have”
High ownership + autonomy: you’ll have a seat at the table and influence priorities, not just execution
Speed and closeness to implementation: direct collaboration with the CTO means fast feedback loops and real shipping
Meaningful problem space: creator and audience-led monetisation is growing, but the tooling still has huge UX gaps your work will be felt immediately by users
Pragmatic product building: focus on getting users to value quickly with minimal clicks, then iterate intelligently

May be delivered via short doc or Loom-style explanation.Stage 3 In-person meeting (lunch, ~1–1.5 hours)
Deeper alignment on product thinking, collaboration style, and ways of working.
